Job Description

The Assistant Controller, General Ledger & Treasury provides leadership and oversight for various general ledger accounting functions. Supervises the university's treasury operations.



Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Finance, Business or closely related field.

Four years of accounting work experience in general ledger systems or administration.

Two of the four years of accounting work experience must have been at a supervisory level.

Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).



Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Finance, Business or closely related field.

Four years of supervisory experience in higher education fund accounting with general ledger and treasury responsibilities.

Experience with Banner software.
Current Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or CPA candidate.



Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), and federal compliance requirements.

Knowledge of university and state policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to accounting practices.

Knowledge of or ability to learn Banner accounting software.

Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects timely and with close attention to detail.

Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, vendors, and business partners.

Ability to think critically, analytically, and make clear, well-reasoned and timely decisions.

Ability to work in both a computerized and paper accounting environment.

Ability to supervise and oversee departmental operations and workflows including daily activities, weekly processes, and closing the Banner accounting system at month-end and year-end.

Ability to utilize standard office equipment including 10-key touch adding machine, calculator, telephone, computer, and multiple computer monitors.

Ability to work with minimal daily direct supervision. Must be able to function independently and recognize when supervisory assistance and/or approval is needed.



Salary Range $65,000 - $75,000

Job Duties

Essential Job Duties

•Directs and retains responsibility for the various general ledger accounting functions as related to finance and accounting, including state and federal reporting.

•Prepares the annual financial report including coordination of journal vouchers and drafting of notes, various state forms for Florida Department of Financial Services, and Schedule of Expenditures for Federal Awards.

•Assists with the annual financial audit as well as special audits performed by internal and external auditors.

•Oversees the university banking relationships. Ensures accurate and timely reconciliation of Banner general ledger to local bank accounts, approving adjustments, and correcting entries.

•Assists in the development and maintenance of university wide investment policies and procedures in the most cash effective manner.

•Works closely with A/P and A/R to establish a cash flow timeline for payables and receivables.

•Monitors internal and external activities to make decisions including converting collections into cash, identifying surplus cash for investment, identifying collection float, timing of cash disbursements, managing large dollar disbursements, maintaining a satisfactory audit trail, and managing financial risk and exposure.

•Oversees unclaimed property and state reporting of abandoned property.

•Works with supervisor and Controller in the coordination and execution of year-end activities. Coordinates and prepares year-end closing entries.

•Performs monthly general ledger review to note abnormal balances or transactions, researching, initiating and approving corrective actions.

•Administers the university accounting functions for the business and educational auxiliary funds and develops accounting procedures as they relate to business and educational auxiliary funds.

•Reviews and maintains the university chart of accounts including establishment of new FOAPALs.

•Organizes, plans, manages, and establishes priorities related to specialized activities and projects for the University.

•Supervises the day-to-day general ledger, banking, and investment activities including training, reviewing of work, and supervising staff. Ensures accurate and timely recognition of revenues and expenditures as well as proper classification within Banner.

•Updates the Finance and Accounting policies and procedures relating to general ledger accounting, auxiliary accounting, maintenance, cash, and investments.

•Recommends and implements changes to operational policies and procedures.

•Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus.
