Controls Engineer II/III

Position Summary

Lead the design, documentation, programming, and installation of EPICS/PLC based control systems; interface with operations and commissioning teams to provide prompt support; collaborate with EPICS/PLC community to keep FRIB control system upto date; manage the preventive maintenance, repair and parts management for assigned equipment, keep records of maintenance tasks and results. Determine ways to optimize logic or systems without making overly complex.  Continually strive to improve productivity, efficiency, quality, and uniformity. 

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

The job requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Physics; three to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in physics, electronics, mechanical and/or electrical drafting, fabrication techniques, heat transfer, cryogenics and computer systems; and may require experience in the use of CAD and/or related engineering systems, including file transfer; experience in the use of exotic metals, including knowledge of their properties, in the fabrication and assembly of sophisticated research equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Experience in controls design, including PLC installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting; experience with Allen Bradley Control Logix PLC’s, Guard Logix, Compact Guard Logix, board level troubleshooting, and AutoCad are desired. Experience with the EPICS controls system is also desired
