Scope of Job: The University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley is seeking applications for a 3-year Lecturer in Applied and Collaborative Piano (two positions) to join the School of Music in Fall 2018. Primary responsibilities include teaching applied piano and other piano-related courses; accompanying undergraduate and graduate instrumental and vocal students; and other duties assigned by the Director of the School of Music/Dean. The position requires a demonstrated record of successful solo and collaborative performance and a successful teaching record at the university level. Candidates should demonstrate the potential for continued scholarly/performance and recruitment activities. This position requires instruction on both the Brownsville and Edinburg campuses. Other expectations include enthusiastic participation in recruitment/outreach events, collegial participation service activities, and student mentoring. The successful candidate will be assigned the standard academic teaching load for a 3-Year Lecturer position.

Minimum Qualifications: Doctor of Musical Arts degree is required from an accredited university, experience teaching applied and class piano, and successful record of solo and collaborative performance experience.
Preferred Qualifications: University-level teaching experience beyond the teaching assistant demonstrated success in recruitment, experience working with instrumental soloists and vocalists, and evidence of working collegially within a multi-faculty piano area.

Additional Information UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
