CORRECTIONS OFFICER (Juvenile Facility)

The Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center is seeking a Detention Specialist/Corrections Officer to work in a detention facility for juveniles, ages 11-17 years old.
Must be at least 21 years of age. Possess any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree and one year of work experience which may include: two years of college credit in a related field and two years of work experience with juveniles or three or more years of direct work experience with at-risk juveniles. In addition, Detention Specialist must be physically fit and able to successfully complete Handle With Care (physical restraint training), CPR, First Aid and AED. Individuals must be aware of and show proficiency in planning, resourcing and implementing child friendly recreational, healthcare, education and social activities.
A Bachelor's degree with courses in human behavioral science, criminal justice or related field and one year of work experience with juveniles.
Salary: $20.06 per hour and paid benefits to include the following:

The Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center (NVJDC) is a secure facility for adolescents who are held for the juvenile courts of Northern Virginia. The NVJDC is a regional facility, serving the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church and Arlington County. The Detention Center is governed by the Juvenile Detention Commission for Northern Virginia. The Detention Center is certified by the Board of Juvenile Justice.
Detention's primary duty is to ensure a safe and secure nuturing setting for juvenile detainees. However, detention can help to lay the foundation for noncriminal behavior in the community by coordinating services and communicating closely with other stakeholders in the juvenile service system.
