The Payroll Office at The College of New Jersey is seeking an experienced payroll professional for the position of Payroll Analyst.  The candidate must have experience with an automated payroll system, and be able to successfully manage multiple tasks and deadlines.  The Payroll Analyst should be highly organized, have basic accounting and math skills, as well as strong analytical skills. Strong customer service and communication skills are also required.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the accurate and timely completion of payroll for approximately 500 employees using PeopleSoft HCM.Process reports and validate the accuracy of data.Apply federal, state, college and union regulations in completion of payroll. Analyze data and perform corrective actions. Act as liaison with campus departments to resolve payroll issues.Responsible for data entry as related to payments. Serve as primary backup for payroll analysts.

  • Prepare and process documents and reports for submission to Finance and Business Services in relation to stop payments, reissued payments and payroll related vendor payments.

  • Maintain payroll records management system. Catalog information and ensure timely record retention.

  • Assist with auditing payroll records

  • Assist with year-end payroll tasks

  • Respond to both employee and external inquiries. Research issues and provide an accurate and timely response.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree. (Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience on a year for year basis.)

  • Experience with an automated payroll system. Working knowledge of PeopleSoft HCM a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years payroll processing experience or experience in other related financial operations.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Basic accounting and math skills required.

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills and ability to meet frequent deadlines.

  • Proficiency with MS office applications particularly Excel

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Strong attention to detail.


The starting salary for this position is range P16, Step 1, $41,230.15. The College offers a generous benefits package that includes health, dental, vision and prescription plans as well as pension, paid leave time and tuition savings programs.

Under a new residency bill signed into law by Governor Chris Christie, any individual hired on, or after September 1, 2011, will be required to establish a principal residence in New Jersey unless their position is exempt. New employees will have a full 365 days to establish such residence, from the effective date of hire. Any new employee who believes that they have a critical need to live outside of New Jersey, or that a move to a permanent residence within the state would constitute a hardship, may request an exemption from the provisions of the law by appealing to a five-member committee to be established by the State for the purpose of hearing such appeals.
