The Department of Campus Technology Services (CTS) at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for the position of Telecommunications Technician.

Description of Responsibilities: Provide support and maintenance to campus telecommunications systems. Will report to the Telecommunications Manager and will be expected to work with a team of technical support professionals and provide assistance in the following areas:

  • Primary support for Cisco Unified Call Manager, Cisco Unity Connection, Cisco Unified Contact Center Express, and InformaCast, Installation, configuration and support.
  • Conduct routine diagnostics and monitoring
  • Field contact for data wiring, equipment installation and service
  • Troubleshoot end user connectivity issues-Tier 2
  • Maintain records in telecommunications, network management and help desk software
  • Assist with implementation and management of IP phone infrastructure
  • Support the telecommunications rooms, fiber backbone connections, and other communications equipment through maintenance, labeling, and regular cleaning
  • Provide day-to-day maintenance and support of networking that pertains to VOIP systems
  • This position will require some evening and weekend work

In addition, will be expected to display a commitment to undergraduate and/or graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree by time of appointment,  or an Associate's Degree by time of appointment with 2 years' professional experience in telecommunications, network and/or computer technology
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work interactively as well as independently
  • Ability to lift heavy objects up to 55 lbs.
  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional work experience in network and computer technology
  • Hands-on-experience in diagnosing VOIP infrastructure, network hardware and troubleshooting software
  • CCENT or equivalent Network Certifications
  • Familiarization with authentication technologies and protocols (i.e. 802.1X)
  • Experience with network management systems including but not limited to Intermapper, Prime Infrastructure and SolarWinds
  • Experience working with Cisco Enterprise products
  • Experience working with LAN/WAN technologies or protocols, including but not limited to RADIUS, IP Multicast, Quality of Service, network virtualization and VMWare environments 
  • Knowledge of various operating systems including: Windows and Linux
