Student Health Center is seeking to hire a part-time Crisis Therapist to provide suicide risk assessments and provide crisis intervention services to at risk students at Utah Valley University.

  • Conducts suicide risk assessments utilizing evidence based practice, provides intake, triage, and crisis intervention.
  • Manages complex and high-risk clients and provides emergency on call and after hour services.
  • Administers brief psychotherapy to a broad and diverse population for cognitive, substance, psychotic, mood anxiety, dissociative, sexual, sleep, adjustment, personality and other psychological disorders.

    Required Qualifications
    Graduation from an accredited institution with a Master of Clinical Social Work, Counseling or Clinical Psychology, Mental Health Counseling or Marriage and Family Therapy. Able to meet all of Utah DOPL requirements and licensed as a Clinical Social Worker, Psychologist, Mental Health Counselor or Marriage and Family Therapist.

    Must be licensed to independently provide clinical therapy.

  • Knowledge of individual, group and crisis intervention counseling techniques.
  • Knowledge of treatment plan development and implementation.
  • Knowledge of safety planning.
  • Knowledge of community mental health resources and campus resources.
  • Knowledge of essential principles of psychology, human behavior, counseling, and psychotherapy.
  • Knowledge of psycho diagnostic and psychiatric diagnosis based on DSM-V TM.
  • Basic knowledge of psychopharmacology.
  • Knowledge of Title IX procedures and campus resources.
  • Skilled in participation in consulting techniques, public speaking, teaching, presentations, etc.
  • Secures skills and knowledge in psychological theories, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Skilled in computer and software applications and confidential record keeping.
  • Ability to recommend voluntary and/or involuntary commitment of clients for hospitalization for psychological treatments.
  • Ability to provide suicide risk assessments using evidence based practice.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to be compliant with HIPAA and FERPA privacy laws.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Graduation from an accredited institution with a Master of Social Work, Psychology, Community Mental Health, Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy or related field with at least one year of experience providing crisis intervention and assessment and suicide risk assessment with young adults, age 18-24.

    Physical Requirements
    Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

  • Monday - Thursday 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm
  • Friday 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm

    Benefits Summary
    You may be eligible for a 3 credit hour or 1 class tuition waiver after 6 consecutive months of employment and a minimum of 475 hours worked. Dependents do not qualify for a waiver.


    Pay Range
    $20.88 - $26.10
