The Chicago School's Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Academic Community Leadership
The Chicago School partners with local community service agencies to sponsor post-doctoral training positions in academic and community leadership. The post-doctoral fellowship program aims to develop leaders in the field who are both clinically skilled as well as prepared for leadership and administrative roles in an academic or community setting. The primary goals of the training program are to offer specialty training in working with underserved and diverse populations, facilitate opportunities for community-based scholarship, and prepare participants for academic leadership roles related to training, community engagement, and diversity.
The Fellowship in Academic Community Leadership aims to strengthen the links among academic and administrative leadership, scholarship, and community needs. The training program prepares psychologists with career goals rooted in community engagement and community-based research, program development, teaching and mentoring, agency or academic administration and leadership, serving underserved populations, and outreach.
The fellow is expected to have achieved the following by the end of the training program
Advanced skills required for independent practice in assessment, consultation, and treatment in community-based settings
Enhanced administrative and leadership skills, including working collaboratively in a consultative manner with constituents in both community and academic environments managing multiple projects and responsibilities Increased multicultural competence in both clinical and administrative settings Refined understanding of ethical considerations and professional conduct Contribution to and oversight of the design, development, and implementation of a program, initiative, or curriculum Ability to develop and provide excellent professional presentations for peers, supervisors, and students Acquired hours and experiences necessary to apply for clinical psychology licensure in Illinois
For the 2017-2018 year, there is one post-doc position that combines one administrative and one clinical rotation:
The Chicago School APP Department / Pillars Community Services
- The post-doc fellowship position is a full-time, 12-month program beginning tentatively Monday, August 21, 2017.
- The fellow participates in two training experiences throughout the year:
- Part-time spent providing direct clinical and outreach services at Pillars
- Part-time in the Applied Professional Practice department at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, focusing on academic leadership, clinical training and administrative activities.
- Part-time spent providing direct clinical and outreach services at Pillars
- The post-doc position has been developed to optimize the requirements for both clinical and administrative rotations as well as to ensure accrual of required licensure hours for the State of Illinois.
- The fellow may be expected to teach workshops or ongoing seminars as a component of his or her administrative or clinical placements.
- The position has opportunities for formal and informal scholarly activities, as well as grant writing experience.
- Two hours of individual supervision per week is offered to the postdoc. One hour is offered at the clinical site, which is related to administrative tasks and supervision of supervision.The other hour occurs at the clinical placement and focuses on the fellow's case load and other clinical responsibilities.
The fellowship stipend is $30,000 for the year and includes full employee benefits: health, vision, and dental coverage, flexible spending accounts, domestic partner benefits, and vacation time. Over-contract funding is available for optional formal teaching experiences at The Chicago School.

The Chicago School of Professional Psychology - Administrative Job Description
The Chicago School is an accredited, not-for-profit institution focusing exclusively on psychology and related behavioral sciences, The Chicago School has been an innovator in the field of psychology and related behavioral sciences for more than 30 years. It offers students a choice of two locations in the Chicagoland area.
- Provide group supervision to doctoral interns and advanced practicum students. Schedule and facilitate didactic trainings for doctoral interns and advanced practicum students.
- Coordinate other training activities for the doctoral internship program, including

Pillars Fellow - Clinical Job Description
Pillars is a non-profit, mental health and social service agency serving the western suburbs of Chicago. The mission of the agency is to aspire to build healthier communities by making connections and changing lives. They do this by providing quality mental health services, social services and education for people of all ages. Pillars utilizes a community wraparound approach, offering a wide spectrum of fully-integrated services that collectively offer the strongest possible safety net. Many services are bilingual and all are provided without regard to race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, income level, gender, age, or disability. Last year, Pillars served 12,000 people in suburban Cook County, Eastern DuPage County, and Chicago.
Pillars partners with Community Nurse Health Association (CNHA), a nonprofit, reduced-cost integrated care medical clinic for adults and children. CNHA has been providing low-cost medical services to clients in the La Grange area for over 90 years. Pillars joined CNHA in 2008 in order to meet the behavioral health needs of the medical patients being served. Pillars at CNHA utilizes an integrated primary and behavioral health care model to meet the needs of the clients.
The postdoc's primary clinical placement will be at Pillars at Community Nurse and will include the following job responsibilities:
- Individual, family, couples and group therapy with clients referred by Community Nurse Health Association.
- Consultation with the client's health care providers on an on-going basis to maximize access to care and usage of services, and to help create treatment plans based on the client's physical and mental health needs.
- On-going case management is necessary in order to seek resources such as access to health insurance and employment opportunities.
- Evaluate outcomes based on pre and post data provided by the client on a weekly basis.
- Opportunities to supervise a practicum student in psychological assessment, which includes: conducting a differential diagnosis session with the students, fielding questions about the assessment process and procedures, supporting scoring and interpretation of the test data, and editing the psychological reports.
- Evening hours are to be anticipated for two of the three days the fellow is on site.
