I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The George Washington University (GW) Office of Innovation & Entrepreneurship (OIE) is housed under the Office of the Vice President for Research. The office provides programming around innovation, education, venture creation, and making connections to support GW entrepreneurs and the Mid-Atlantic startup community. Founded in 2010, the office has worked with thousands of students, faculty, and alumni, and serves as a focal point for entrepreneurship at GW. It leverages the unique strengths of our university's schools in the nation's capital to serve society at large through the knowledge and practice of entrepreneurship.

GW is a core university in DC I-Corps, which is one of the U.S. National Science Foundation's (NSF) eight Innovation Corps (I-Corps) Nodes, teaching the Lean Startup approach for building successful technology-based startups. GW has also been designated as an NSF I-Corps Site, one of eighty-seven Sites in the nation, and one of only a handful that has received grants as both a Node and a Site.

The Program Coordinator reports to the Director for I-Corps at GW, but provides overall coordination and management support for all OIE programming, including but not limited to the New Venture Competition, I-Corps, and Lean Startup training programs. Specific operational duties include:

Provides program management support (data metrics, evaluation, finance, budget, personnel, outreach, logistics, new business development, internal and community outreach) for OIE initiatives, including the New Venture Competition, I-Corps, and international entrepreneurship training programs. This includes collecting, monitoring and drafting reports on complicated data metrics. Assists senior staff in the analysis of data.

Identifies, monitors, and tracks potential new grants, contracts, and outreach opportunities through online portals (e.g., grants.gov, NSF, VentureWell, USAID, State Department), outreach, and personal networking Assists with grant applications. Oversees all aspects of the department's grants and contracts. This includes proposal submission, award management, budget tracking and close-out. Responsible for financial management of the OIE, including reimbursements, grants, contracts, invoices.

Promotes OIE programs to potential clients through outreach and networking. May give presentations on OIE training programs to visiting delegations and generates new partnership leads. Supports all training activities as primary teaching assistant and logistics liaison for sponsors and partners. Identifies service and operational problems/issues, researches, develops and implements solutions to enhance operations.

Coordinates relationships and partnerships within GW and with the local, regional, and international start-up community. Develops and maintains data bases in consultation with senior staff to track established and potential relationships and partnerships with OIE.

Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated interest in academic innovation, research, or entrepreneurship. Prior experience and familiarity with budgeting systems and other financial management tools. Experience in grant management, including recruitment, contracts, budgeting and reporting. Strong communications and interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with academic, government, industry, technology, non-profit, and international partners, executives, and organizations. Foreign language fluency and international experience highly desirable.
