Molecular Physiology

Summary
  • Conduct a variety of complex and independent investigations in the planning, development and implementation of original experimental procedures and specialized laboratory techniques in the analysis of materials under experimentation.
  • Prepare tissue and specimens for complex procedures, and devise experimental techniques for tests and analyses.
  • Collect information and data through observation, experimentation and various other methods, to include operating highly technical laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
  • Independently plan and perform experiments.
  • Confer with principal investigator in developing plans for research projects, discuss interpretation of results, and assist with the preparation of scientific manuscripts for publication.
  • Interface closely with study collaborators and be responsible for scheduling regular study meetings and work with the troubleshooting to facilitate the work of the-collaborating laboratories, data manager and statisticians to ensure a smoothly functioning investigative unit.
  • Review journals, abstracts and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments and to obtain information aid in the design and development of new laboratory procedures and techniques.
  • Draft and edit abstracts and manuscripts and present at meetings as opportunities arise. Supervise, train and instruct residents, interns, students or personnel in laboratory techniques and procedures. Assist with general laboratory duties including sample inventory management, aliquoting, procurement, and equipment maintenance.
  • Assist with grant preparation as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education/Training: Work requires a bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry or chemistry or other directly related scientific field.

Experience/Skills: Work requires four years of research experience. A related master's degree may substitute for two years of the required experience. Experience with molecular biology, flow cytometry and HPLC are desirable. Experience with basic statistical analyses are also useful.

Education
