Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or related field. Four years of full time experience in designing, evaluating, implementing, deploying, and managing computer hardware and software. Four years full time experience supporting and maintaining computer networks under UNIX/Linux, Windows and Mac OS platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree or higher in Computer Science or related field. IT experience working in a Higher Education/Academic environment. Additional years (5+)of responsible experience in designing, evaluating, implementing, deploying, and managing computer hardware and software. Additional years (5+) of experience supporting and maintaining computer networks under UNIX/Linux, Windows and Mac OS platforms. Experience with Voice-over-IP technology and Microsoft Exchange Server. Cisco training. Brief Description of Duties: Provide day-to-day maintenance and support of the Unified Communications equipment including VoIP phones, sensors, wireless, video, etc. and the computers for all VPED areas. The incumbent will implement, configure, and maintain routers, switches, and firewalls as well as install, terminate, and patch CAT7a and/or fiber optic cables for all VPED areas. The incumbent will monitor systems for problems and take proactive actions. In addition, he/she will assist all VPED staff in related IT tasks. The selected candidate will have outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. They will have the experience successfully working independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving. As well as strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail. Provide day-to-day maintenance and support of Unified Communications equipment including VoIP phones, sensors, wireless, video, and the computers for all VPED areas. Communicate internally with Procurement Department and externally with mobile carriers to ensure uninterrupted services of wireless and mobile devices of VPED users.
Implement, configure, and maintain routers, switches, and firewalls as well as install, terminate, and patch CAT7a and fiber optic cables for all VPED areas. Monitor systems for network and computer issues for all VPED areas and take proactive actions. Working with the Campus and CEWIT IT staff, integrate new technologies with current systems to meet the VPED research goals. Evaluate and recommend computers, peripherals, software and other products in response to the changing needs of the VPED areas; maintain and create VPED domain user accounts as needed; install licensed software on VPED area computers. Write, test, and install systems and application level software. Ensure the security of computers, and protect computers from attacks. Instruct VPED area users in use of new Unified Communications hardware and software. Debug systems related to the Unified Communications software and hardware problems.
Assist CEWIT and AERTC staff in participating in CEWIT and AERTC research and work as a member of CEWIT technical team to: Provide/write technical description of various CEWIT/AERTC networks to be added into grant proposals for research funding applications; Provide technical advice on network equipment purchases; Setup, implement and configure purchased network equipment; Work with CEWIT and AERTC researchers and system support staff to define, analyze and communicate system problems and specifications; Provide/write technical setting and configuration of CEWIT/AERTC networks to be added into research achievement reports. Communicate on a regular basis with wireless and IT manufacturers regarding existing products and upcoming enhancements. In such interactions, the opportunity may arise to: Explore the possibilities of network software and hardware donations to VPED areas from various manufacturers; Explore the possibilities of network research funding support from the manufacturers; Explore the possible research collaboration between CEWIT/AERTC and the manufacturers on developing new network technologies or products. Other duties or projects as assigned.
