Degree and Area of Specialization:

A four-year degree with a major in Accounting or a related field of business OR two years of academic coursework and two years of related work experience is preferred.



Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

1-2 years financial experience preferred.

A well qualified candidate will have:
General knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ,University, State, Federal and/or Non-federal rules and regulations.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills as well as ability to independently determine priorities.
Skills in computer applications (mainframe programs, spreadsheets, databases).
Ability to interpret and analyze financial data.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability and willingness to learn and adapt to new systems.
Ability to prepare financial reports, spreadsheets and budgets.
Ability to develop and provide training is preferred.




Position Summary:

The College of Engineering (CoE) consists of nine academic departments and 40+ research centers, which along with the Dean's Office, has 2500 academic staff, university, employees in training, graduate, and undergraduate employees and an annual budget of $73M. On an annual basis, the CoE receives funding from multiple sources including General Purchase Revenue (GPR), UW Foundation Gifts, Federal Grants and Industrial Grants. As a result, the CoE has complex financial and accounting needs that require oversight and coordination.

Assist in managing the payroll review and processing for College of Engineering encompassing roughly 2000 individuals in a variety of appointment types and supported by a complex variety of funding sources. These responsibilities include reviewing and performing a wide variety of activities in the UW Madison Job and Employee Management System (JEMS) and all modules within the UW Human Resources System (HRS), including payroll, leave accounting, benefits, funding, and human resources. This position will have a primary connection between the College of Engineering and Departments for accounting and payroll processes.

This position performs responsible professional accounting practices requiring the knowledge and application of accounting theories and principles for the University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Engineering. This position involves a variety of fiscal management, accounting and budgeting activities including: monitoring and coordination of fiscal year end closing; monitoring expenditures, reconciling fund balances, interpreting fund requirements and deadlines, ensuring expenditures are in line with requirements, recommending action on various accounting questions, serving as a business operations resource person for State, University and College policy development, interpretation and implementation.
