The University of Texas at Austin, Department of Kinesiology & Health Education is seeking applications from outstanding academic research scientists for two (2) tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in the Exercise Science program. The Department is the #2 ranked doctoral program in the country by the National Academy of Kinesiology and is committed to a diverse and inclusive working and learning environment. We are seeking candidates whose research, teaching, or service prepared them to contribute to this commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Competitive candidates should have a specific interest in one or more of the specialty areas of biomechanics and neuroscience, including, but not limited to, gait mechanisms, neuromuscular control, neurological impairments, rehabilitation, or motor learning/development, with applications across the lifespan from pediatrics/adolescence to older adults.
The ideal candidates will have a research agenda that leverages our core biomechanics/motor control and learning laboratories. Available key equipment includes a Motek gait system, V-Gait 3D instrumented split-belt treadmill and Virtual Reality system, multiple force plates, Delsys EMG, and Vicon motion capture systems. These are complimented by a departmentally-controlled, 2,500 sq. ft. exercise training facility along with core physiology laboratories to support a range of biochemical assays, metabolic rate, body composition (DXA), and other assessments.
There are numerous opportunities for collaboration both within the Department and across the College of Education and the University. The Dell Medical School and the Dell Pediatric Research Institute provide outstanding access to clinical populations across the lifespan. The Exercise Science faculty is highly interactive and maintains multiple strong collaborations with faculty in education, nutrition, biomedical and mechanical engineering, pharmacy, neuroscience, medicine, public health, and psychology. Applicants are expected to have a demonstrated track record of publications reflecting evidence of an existing line of scholarly research and a record of external funding or strong potential to obtain external funding. Successful candidates will be expected to pursue an active research agenda leading to publications in quality refereed journals and external funding. Postdoctoral training or independent research experience is strongly preferred. A strong commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, as well as outstanding leadership, organizational and communication skills, are essential.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Exercise Science or a closely related field.
