The Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an exceptional physician to join the Department of Internal Medicine as a clinician-investigator focused on cardiovascular disease research.

Dell Medical School (DMS) is the first medical school established in nearly five decades by a member of the Association of American Universities, an organization of leading public and private research universities. DMS enrolled its first class of 50 undergraduate medical students in June of 2016.

JOB SUMMARY

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the US, and improving cardiovascular outcomes is an important focus for DMS. This clinician-investigator position will be focused on developing a successful research program in cardiovascular disease prevention, and reducing CVD health disparities. DMS will provide the successful candidate with start-up funding, mentorship, and shared resources to ensure the greatest opportunity for high research productivity and advancement as a clinician-investigator.

The successful candidate for this position will work closely with Dr. Michael Pignone, a national expert in cardiovascular disease prevention, who has a long-standing track record of successful grant-funded research and mentorship of junior and mid-career investigators. Dr. Pignone's specific areas of interest include the role of aspirin and statins for CVD prevention, shared decision making for cardiovascular disease prevention, and the organization of clinical services to provide high value, patient-centered care.

The position will also include approximately 20-25% clinical and educational effort, with the specific responsibilities to be negotiated.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Participate in cardiovascular disease-related health services research, including the development of grant proposals, conduction of health services research, and dissemination of new learning and innovations.

Provide high-quality clinical care and clinical teaching.

Mentor or collaborate with other researchers or researchers in training, including graduate students.

Publish work in high-impact journals. Present work at national and international meetings, work with care providers and health care delivery networks to implement research in practice.


Qualifications
Required Qualifications

We are seeking applicants at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.

MD degree with Board Certification (or Board Eligibility if within 2 years of residency) in Internal Medicine.

Unrestricted license (or ability to obtain within 90 days of appointment) to practice medicine in the State of Texas.

Eligible for appointment as an Assistant or Associate Professor.

Fellowship training and/or experience in health services research.

Evidence of scholarly productivity, including prior national research presentations and publications.

Strong clinical teaching skills.
