Summary of Duties:
The Assistant Manager is responsible to the Beef Operations Manager. This person must be able to serve as “Manager” in the absence of the Manager. The assistant manager has sole responsibility for specific program operations including: animal nutrition, leading and developing educational programs and developing and implementing safety programs. The position is also responsible for planning, timing and directing personnel resources, and facilities for major beef herd and feedlot events (calving, breeding, nutrition and feeding, health care, forage utilization, and pasture grazing schedules, livestock sales) and to meet the needs of the WSU Meats Laboratory, WSU Premium Beef and WSU Premium Wagyu Beef. In concert with the manager this position coordinates resources, time and facility issues, communication and organizational issues to coordinate multiple, and simultaneous use for research, extension, and classes. The assistant manager teaches classes as assigned by the departmental chair. The assistant manager is a critical participant in the implementation of the Beef Center and Cattle Feeding Lab's animal care and nutrient management plans. The Assistant Manager is an important representative of the Department of Animal Sciences and WSU to the beef industry.
This person will typically work Mon-Fri 7a to 4p but must be willing to be flexible in their work schedule to include weekends should the needs of animals, teaching, research and extension require it.
Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and two (2) years of progressively responsible relevant experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
