The College of Health Professions invites applications for a tenure-track, 10-month Assistant Professor/Associate Professor position in the Athletic Training Program in the Department of Kinesiology beginning August 2018. The department currently offers a CAATE accredited program, with a mission to create, incorporate and apply knowledge of human movement as it relates to athletic training.
Research doctoral degree in kinesiology, exercise science, movement science, or a related field, from an accredited institution. ABD applicants considered, but appointment will be at the Instructor rank and all degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2019. Minimum of five years of certification and good standing with the Board of Certification (BOC, Inc) and must hold or be eligible to apply for Maryland Licensure as an Athletic Trainer by the start of the appointment. Experience in practicing clinical athletic training, and quality teaching at the collegiate or secondary level is expected. Candidates must have focused scholarship in an area related to athletic training. Demonstrated experience working with diverse groups of students, faculty and staff. Preference given to candidates with contemporary expertise in athletic training, knowledge of CAATE standards and accreditation process, and experience in: research mentorship, athletic training program development, and administrative or leadership roles.
Primary responsibilities include: 1) TEACHING - high-quality instruction in athletic training courses, curriculum development for the master’s level professional athletic training program and advising of athletic training majors, 2) SCHOLARSHIP-development of a focused area of scholarship that includes refereed publications, professional presentations and involvement in scholarly projects with faculty and students, 3) SERVICE-active participation in the substantive change process, particularly with administrative tasks and curriculum management; participation in faculty meetings, service on department, college or university committees, and contribution to professional organizations.
Athletic Training Program Information:
Towson University’s Athletic Training Program provides a quality, well-rounded undergraduate education with a focus on all necessary cognitive, psychomotor and affective skills in formalized multi-dimensional academic and clinical settings in order to prepare students to become certified Athletic Trainers. The major is pre-screened with limited enrollment. The three-year aggregate BOC pass rate is 97%. In addition to formal didactic training, students are provided with quality clinical experiences at one of 21 clinical sites, and participate in professional organizations and interdisciplinary faculty-guided research, resulting in presentations and publications. The undergraduate program is currently in the substantive change process and will be submitting curricular changes during the 2018-2019 academic year, admitting the first master’s level professional athletic training class in Fall 2021.
The Department of Kinesiology, located in the College of Health Professions, has 30 full-time faculty and more than 1,300 undergraduate majors in physical education/teacher education, athletic training, sport management, and exercise science. In addition, the department has initiatives at the College’s Institute for Well-Being through its Wellness Center that supports student education, community education and research.
