The James Madison University Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2018. We strive to be a leading undergraduate physics and astronomy department by building a research-active and student-centered program. We seek outstanding candidates in the areas of materials science, soft condensed matter, nonlinear, nonequilibrium, or biological physics. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in physics or a related field, relevant postdoctoral experience, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching physical sciences and mentoring undergraduates. The successful candidate is expected to initiate and maintain a vigorous research program involving students and be an effective teacher at all levels of the undergraduate physics curriculum, including courses for non-science majors. The ability to integrate existing instrumentation and facilities into a research program will be considered in evaluating candidates. Finally, the department is interested in candidates who are committed toward building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.
