Recruitment Coordinator

The Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park, is seeking applicants for a Recruitment Coordinator position. The employee in this position will be responsible for performing the student recruiting functions for the college as well as establishing and maintaining procedures that align with the University's policies and procedures.


Duties are as follows:

Organize and coordinate all journalism undergraduate recruitment events run by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as well as events specifically for Merrill. Provide information sessions to high schools and middle schools. Visit high schools in the region to familiarize teachers and students with Merrill College.

Work with the Associate dean for undergraduate services to identify, train and supervise tour guides, panelists and participants in phone-a-thons and online chats. Coordinate events as needed with Maryland- Delaware-DC Press Association (MDDCPA).

Communicate with prospective students and their parents. Work with college's communication director and interested student volunteer to produce social media products for recruitment tools. Respond to admitted students and parent queries.

Coordinate Scholarship process working with the development office and communications director to update scholarship site. Participate in Honors and Banneker Key scholarship selection process.

Represent the college at campus-wide recruitment meetings and some national high school journalism conferences. Assist as needed with recruitments efforts for the Master's Program

Other duties, as assigned.


Physical demands: Must be able to travel and carry printed recruitment materials to various venues. Must be able to give walking tours of Knight Hall.



Must have a bachelor's degree, preferably in the field of journalism or communication. At least three years of full-time work experience is preferred as is experience in academic recruiting or a media-related field.
