DESCRIPTION   The Georgia Institute of Technology’s School of Architecture invites applications for the Director of the High Performance Building Lab (HPBLab). The HPBLab is an internationally recognized leader in research in building energy systems, renewable technologies and energy modeling at the building and urban scale. The lab is also  looking to expand its research breadth to include other areas of building performance. Current research in the lab is supported by grants from NSF, DOE, GSA National Research Labs, among others. In addition to a director, the HPBLab has staff support and graduate research assistant positions.

RESPONSIBILITIES  The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of advanced research in building energy systems. The Director of the HPBLab and will hold a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in the School of Architecture. The candidate  will be expected to build strong interdisciplinary ties with other energy related labs on campus and expand the impact and visibility the HPBLab. The candidate will be expected to attract and support, outstanding M.S. and Ph.D. students and generate sponsored research from both government and private industry.. The faculty member will teach seminars. Engaging with graduate design studios as part of a school-wide initiative to integrate design and research will be part of the position.

This is a full-time faculty appointment with management responsibility for the HPBLab as well as teaching responsibilities in the School or Architecture. Affiliation and joint appointment with another school at Georgia Tech is also possible, if appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS  Applications are encouraged from candidates with strong scholarly credentials and/or professional records in the research and application of energy infrastructure and modeling in architecture and construction, strong leadership skills, a record of sponsored research and industry collaboration, and a strong record of teaching. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in architecture or a related discipline.

SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE   The School of Architecture is one of five schools in the College of Design. Other schools include Building Construction, City and Regional Planning, Industrial Design, and Music. The SoA offers Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Architecture, M.S. in Urban Design, along with specialized M.S. in Architecture degrees in Digital Design and Fabrication, High Performance Buildings, Design and Health, and Urban Design.
