Office of Advancement has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Director of Development position in Ophthalmology.

Position Emphasis:

This position coordinates, directs, and implements development activities related to initiatives for ocular and ophthalmologic health within the Department of Ophthalmology on the Anschutz Medical Campus (in collaboration with the UC Health Eye Center). This position may direct one or more development personnel; is responsible for planning, implementing and coordinating fundraising activities for designated program(s); plans and carries out the institution's program of soliciting major gifts. This position may lead a particular fundraising unit, and work directly with a designated school, college, department or center leader; and may be responsible for managing a designated budget.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Works to cultivate existing and new donor (individual, corporate, and foundation) relationships with the intent of sustaining and increasing the relationship with the donor.
  • Serves in a supporting role with faculty, who will lead some gift conversations with current and prospective benefactors.
  • Portfolio Management: Manages a portfolio consisting of a minimum of 60 prospects. Goals relating to personal contacts, number of proposed gifts, grants, and prospect identification to be set with and approved by management.
  • Develops and manages portfolios of individual, corporate and foundation prospects capable of making significant gifts in order to secure major gift commitments (at least $25K). Plans and implements programs that include measurable targets for each fiscal year (e.g., personal visits, stewardship activities, solicitations).
  • Works with senior campus and office of advancement leadership on strategy and process improvement for campus fundraising opportunities.
  • Cultivates existing and new faculty relationships to monitor developing research opportunities that are aligned with a destination academic medical center.
  • Assists in ongoing management and maintenance of case for support, including continuous formulation of supportive materials.
  • Works closely with University of Colorado (CU) faculty; and may work directly with volunteers daily to develop and implement fundraising strategies in order to meet established goals and objectives. Facilitates productive relationships daily between donors and CU administrators, faculty and staff to ensure effectiveness of programs.
  • Works daily to ensure timely, accurate completion of proposals, pledges and fund agreements. Documents prospect strategies and contact reports, evaluates new prospects and generates stewardship reports and general correspondence daily to cultivate major gift prospects.
  • Represents the Development Office at events in order to support the University and cultivate donors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 5 years of successful professional fundraising experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate work in a related field.
  • At least 7 years of top level, successful professional fundraising experience.
  • Experience in fundraising for medical field or higher education.


Competencies:

  • Deep knowledge of higher education advancement.
  • Expert ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain interpersonal relationships.
  • Expert ability to analyze information, situations and solve problems.
  • Expert ability to handle sensitive information discretely and maintain confidentiality.
  • Proven ability to organize and manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, to work independently and collaboratively, and to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Solid knowledge of current issues facing public universities and interests of healthcare professionals, students, faculty, and alumni.
  • Proven ability to focus internally and to equip others externally.
  • Personal computer proficiency required, Microsoft Office Products and donor tracking software. Computer skills may be subject to testing and verification.
