General Summary: The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Peer Math Tutor. The peer math tutor's job is to foster an environment for study, and to assist students in the study of mathematics. The focus will be on effective studying techniques and test preparation, and how to leverage textbooks and class notes to help solve problems.

Job Duties & Responsibilities: The student will:
  • Assist students with course related material from MATH 0097 to MATH 1113.
  • Maintain a professional attitude about matters pertaining to class standards, grades, and student complaints.
  • Sign in and out under ADP.
  • Notify supervisor(s) immediately of any schedule change or absence.
  • Encourage students to participate in class, obtain notes even if absent from class, attempt homework before asking for help, and communicate their concerns about the course to their professor.
  • Help students with math problems or find similar problems that are related to the student's homework. It is left for the students to do graded homework on their own.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Must be able to work in the mid to late morning and some afternoons
  • Must be able to communicate subject matter, study skills/habits effectively to tutees
  • Understanding and appreciation of various types of learning styles
  • Must be dependable


Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker and Federal Work Study eligible.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and excellent scores in all math courses taken
  • Flexible schedule not exceeding 19 hours
  • Recommendation from at least one UNG math faculty member
