Occupational Summary:
Lead development and execution of a strategic communications plan. Conceive and carry out all external and internal communications, media relations, the design and development of web-based and traditional publications, promotions of major events, and coordinate with the External Relations Specialist on the development and production of advancement materials. This position reports directly to the Institute Director.

Work Performed:
Manage and execute all aspects of communications for the Kenan Institute for Ethics, including the following:

1. Work with Institute leadership to develop and implement communications strategies. Plan and implement policies and procedures for all areas/phases of communication; oversee the development and implementation of messaging and incorporation of messages into all communications. Advise leadership, faculty, and staff on the effective use of communications.

2. Lead and manage the development and production of KIE informational and marketing materials and publications, including newsletters, brochures, booklets, posters, flyers, announcements and other publications; write or edit and approve all written materials; work with outside vendors to design and produce materials, including budgeting, bidding, and design company selection and direction. ensure publications are printed on schedule and according to budgetary and other requirements; coordinate design and placement of advertising for print and radio; assist with the preparation of audio-visual materials and handouts used in local, regional or national presentations. Handle or oversee the planning, development, and promotion of KIE publications and major events, including the Kenan Lecture, panel discussions, symposia, other lectures, and special events.

3. Manage Institute presence online. Create and implement online communication strategies, including website, social media, e-mail news, and other online vehicles. Manage presentation and display of KIE- sponsored physical space, including screens, display boards, and university-wide posted communications. Manage the Kenan Institute for Ethics website, including content and homepage announcements, and act as liaison for content residing on these sites. Manage and facilitate all KIE media relations, including serving as point person for media inquiries, reviewing all press materials, coordinating strategies with the Office of News & Communications, and serving as a liaison to other campus communicators. Develop and write news releases, feature articles, media advisories and news tips for distribution to the news media to publicize the Kenan Institute for Ethics, its programs, activities, faculty, students and staff; organize, assist with and conduct interviews and other public relations activities; manage collection and distribution of media content (including photographs, audio and video recordings) for special events and activities; coordinate with media representatives to secure interviews and place articles in local and national radi Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Requirements:
Education/Training: Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.
Experience: Work requires two years of experience in public relations;
Willingness and ability to do some travel (valid NC drivers license) and work occasional evening/weekend events.

Education
