Duties and Responsibilities - Provides timely, appropriate and accurate information on majors, admissions requirements, career information, resources and follow-up;- Meets with students individually or in group sessions to assist them in assessing educational goals, identifying majors, developing matriculation plans and selecting appropriate coursework;- Evaluates student records to measure academic progress and identify any program deficiencies;- Calculates grade point averages and deficiency points;- Presents students with alternative academic programs as appropriate and warranted;- Assists students in analyzing and identifying solutions to academic problems;- Develops, hosts and presents academic information workshops;- Teaches Freshmen Seminar and equivalents;- May be responsible for the design and implementation of a specific, designated programming area;- Interprets the catalog for the purposes of advising;- Follows Pierpont policies and procedures on file reviews, documentation, confidentiality, data management and e-advising;- Advises students on academic probation;- Provides advising services to students with special needs, e.g., academically at-risk students, students with disabilities, transient students;- Participates in advising programs;- Uses web services and software programs such as, BANNER; - Participates in evening advising events;- Responds to student inquiries and communications via email, phone, and/or letters in regards to admissions criteria, application procedures, and general questions/needs for information;- Reviews and maintains students' academic files, ensuring strict security and confidentiality of student information; and,Performs related duties as assigned or as directed.

Minimum Required Education Requires a bachelor's degree in counseling or a field related to the position to which assigned, plus one to two (1-2) years of directly related experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
