Position Summary

This position serves as the manager of the department operations and staff and as the primary borrower for interlibrary loan materials. This person will use experience and critical thinking skills to prioritize the workflow according to the unit standards, e.g. making judgments on the realignment of staff based on the volume of work for the day, and in depth knowledge of ILL software to facilitate timely processing of requests by customizing the software and investigating and applying new features and services.

This position has knowledge of ALA Interlibrary Loan Codes; copyright standards for ILL, best practices for ILL; general library standards, procedures, techniques, systems, working manuals, and reference sources and knowledge of the work unit. Uses library applications (internal and external) in a networked environment to retrieve information. Uses internet for searching and delivering full text material to patrons. Uses online union catalog and other search engines to search for materials and is responsible for searching for requests that require advanced search skills. Uses specialized interlibrary loan software to order materials, track progress of requests and manage overdue accounts and invoices from lending libraries. Understands the Library of Congress call number system in order to select material and check availability of items. Uses ILL and Circulation System software to check in/out materials. Knows services offered by reference staff and refers patrons who can benefit from these services.

Position requires general knowledge of and adherence to university policies, procedures, and operations. Understands University email policy and adheres to this for all interlibrary loan notifications and email interactions. Sight recognition of applicable foreign language or technical terminology. Understands specialized technical terminology relating to interlibrary loan and has extensive knowledge of both lending and borrowing tasks.



Minimum Qualifications

BACHELOR'S DEGREE AND ONE YEAR OF EXPERIENCE IN A LIBRARY OR IN ARCHIVES OR RECORDS MANAGEMENT; OR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENCY AND FIVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN A LIBRARY OR IN ARCHIVES OR RECORDS MANAGEMENT; OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE. ALL DEGREES MUST BE RECEIVED FROM APPROPRIATELY ACCREDITED INSTITUTIONS.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years Interlibrary Loan experience using ILLiad software, preferably for borrowing in an academic library
  • Two (2) years supervisory experience
  • Two (2) years customer service experience
  • Knowledge of library cataloging standards
  • Accounts payable experience
  • Foreign language reading skill
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel

Manipulates materials from one specified format to another without defined procedures requiring interpretation and additional independent research into acceptable practices.
