Position Summary: Carolina Housing is committed to providing convenient housing that is secure, inclusive and supportive. Students create a home in our on-campus communities, build life-long friendships and develop skills for their current and future successes as they journey through their Carolina experience. In total, over 500 full-time, part-time, and student staff are responsible for providing programs and services for 10,000 residents in 33 residence halls and 400 student family apartments. The department manages 3.3 million square feet of residential space and operates as an auxiliary generating annual revenue over $59 million including a year-round guest/conference operation. Carolina Housing is in the midst of implementing its five-year strategic plan and in the process of long-term capital planning that is likely to include renovation and new construction. As a member of the departmental leadership team, the Senior Associate Director oversees all aspects of residential learning, student conduct, training, selection, crisis management, summer programs (summer school and orientation). The Senior Associate Director directly supervises four Assistant Directors and indirectly supervises four Program Coordinators, 18 Community Directors and approximately 450 student staff members. Collectively, the Residential Education unit is responsible for comprehensive and innovative program development and the management of 15 residential communities serving approximately 10,000 residents. The Senior Associate Director is a primary connection with the Carolina community to cultivate meaningful relationships with a wide variety of campus partners in Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and other areas of the Chapel Hill community. The Senior Associate Director reports to the Director of Housing and Residential Education.
Education Requirements: The successful candidate will possess a masters degree in higher education administration or college student development, or related discipline, (PhD preferred).
Qualification and Experience: The successful candidate should have: - A minimum of 10 years of broad and progressive experience in housing and residential education. - Demonstrated experience in the development of connections with the larger university community including Student Affairs and Academic Affairs. - Understanding of issues of diversity and inclusion; demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in promoting respect and appreciation for diversity and pluralism among students and staff. - Demonstrated experience working within large, complex organizations committed to achieving excellence through the implementation of a strategic vision using outcomes assessment to evaluate effectiveness. - Demonstrated strong organizational, project management, budget and administrative skills.
