We are currently seeking a Veteran Outreach Specialist who will advance the institution's proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.

Your mission: You'll play a key role in implementing assigned program activities and services that enhance leadership participation, success and retention.

Your work: You'll have variety in your day. You will work with a wide range of activities, including recruitment events at high schools, colleges and community fairs. You will work with people from various community agencies including public and private schools, churches, and social service organizations. You will be a person who will plan and coordinate various events that are important to the students and to Houston Community College

Assist with implementation of assigned program activities and services that enhance leadership participation, success and retention.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  1. Assist by fostering partnerships with various community agencies, including public and private schools, churches, and social service organizations;
  2. Work cooperatively with department staff, faculty, college staff, students, and administrators as required by the assigned program;
  3. Assist with conducting information sessions as required by assigned program;
  4. Participate in various functions and outreach initiatives for assigned program;
  5. Serve as a mentor to program participants;
  6. Collaborate to develop and coordinate program activities for assigned program; and
  7. Participate in projects, as deemed appropriate by the Supervisor.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.


Associate's degree from an accredited college or university required or four (4) years directly related work experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.


Two (2) years of experience participating, planning or coordinating outreach activities in higher education or community setting required.

  1. Ability to establish and maintain relationships with community agencies, and social services to identify recruitment opportunities;
  2. Ability to work on a team with diverse individuals;
  3. Possess ability to handle multiple tasks at once;
  4. Able to meet deadlines and work independently; and
  5. Experience using standard office software programs.
