Position Summary: The Department of Family Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in association with UNC Health Care System and Chatham Hospital seeks a Family Physician to join a group of UNC Family Physicians to work in the Emergency Department of a teaching hospital located 30 miles outside of Chapel Hill. This position includes a UNC academic appointment of Adjunct Assistant Professor, and duties will include the full scope of ED patient care in addition to the teaching of UNC medical students, family medicine residents and physician assistants during their clinical rotations through the ED. The ED team is supported by 12 hours of midlevel provider and 16 hours of scribe assistance, the UNC telephone consult service, the UNC transfer center, tele-psych service, interpreter services, UNC ED roundtable (a collaboration between all EDs in the UNC system), and UNC AirCare. We use EPIC as our EHR, and the majority of our patient transfers are to UNC main campus. Chatham Hospital is a 21 bed critical access hospital located in Siler City with a 10 bed ED and with an annual ED volume of 17K. The hospital also has a hospitalist teaching service entirely staffed by UNC Department of Family Medicine faculty. Consultative services include general surgery, orthopedics, and cardiology. Successful candidates must be board certified in Family Medicine. Experience in emergency medicine, urgent care, rural practice or teaching experience is a plus. Full time is 12 shifts per month (12 hours each), generally split equally between night and day shifts. There is a night shift pay differential, and the option to work entirely as a Nocturnist is also available.
Education Requirements: MD or DO, board certified in Family Medicine.
Qualification and Experience: Clinical experience in an emergency department setting is preferred but not required. Continuous certification in ACLS, PALS and ATLS will be required.
