Position Summary: The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Department of Romance Studies invites applicants for a tenured position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor of Italian. Field of specialization is modern and contemporary Italian Studies, such as literature, cinema, and culture. Commitment to interdisciplinary and transnational approaches is expected. The position carries a 2-2 teaching load at the graduate and undergraduate levels, directs the Italian Studies graduate program, and has significant expectations for research, as well as service to the University, Department and professional organizations. The successful candidate must have a Doctorate (or foreign equivalent) in Italian or a related field, and native or near-native fluency in Italian. Outstanding scholarship with a superior record of scholarly research and publication commensurate to rank, an active and ongoing research agenda, and evidence of excellent teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels are required. The successful candidate must have appropriate qualifications in the relevant field at the time of application. The appointment will begin with the fall term of 2018, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2018.
