Job Description

As the Colloquium, Instructor I you will teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as applicable; be involved in course and/or curriculum development; research/scholarship; participate on College and University committees and/or initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation.

Must meet the University and College criteria for the appointment to the level of Instructor I.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. with an interdisciplinary focus and with an emphasis on sustainability from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation.

Interdisciplinary expertise in sustainability especially as it relates to the Humanities, Social Sciences, Engineering, Business, Health Sciences, Natural Sciences, or other closely related fields.

Experience teaching sustainability content with a broad, applied approach; experience with course-based service-learning.

Evidence of commitment to active and experiential learning at the undergraduate level.

Evidence of scholarship in sustainability and/or the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to develop and initiate appropriate service-learning (experiential learning) experiences for students.

Experience or commitment to the use of technology in distance learning & university teaching. Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning. Must value continued scholarship and service to the school and university.

Essential Job Duties

Teaches courses at the undergraduate level (4/4/2 teaching load), primarily the University Colloquium: A Sustainable Future, the University's signature Interdisciplinary, Environmental Education course designed to explore the concepts of sense of place, ecological literacy, and sustainability as it relates to a variety of considerations and forces in the environment. In particular, the course considers ecological, social, ethical, historical, scientific, economic, and political influences. This course is taught by faculty across the colleges representing a wide variety of disciplines.

Possibility of teaching one course in fall and/or spring in disciplinary area.

Participates in regular program and department meetings and collaborates with fellow full time colloquium faculty and coordinator in reviewing curriculum and discussing development of course and participating with other responsibilities.
