Stanford University, Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine is seeking a Life Science Technician II to perform basic functions and activities involved in defined research projects, and independently conduct and analyze experiments. This individual will participate in projects to evaluate how the immune system contributes to the progression of coronary artery disease. This project involves work with heart tissue, blood, histology, fluorescent activated cell sorting, and PCR.

Duties include:

  • Perform skilled techniques in support of lab's research goals
  • Blood processing
  • Antibody staining
  • Cell sorting and analysis
  • Histological analysis
  • Maintain accurate documentation of experimental protocols and perform mathematical analysis of data.
  • Monitor, order, and store all lab supplies. Primarily responsible for equipment maintenance and supply ordering. Interface with vendors and materials procurement.
  • May oversee and/or train other lab staff.

  • At least two years of previous laboratory experience or two years of college coursework in related scientific discipline required.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills, as well as demonstrated professionalism in working with colleagues.
  • Must be capable of and willing to pay strict attention to detail, including following written and oral instruction. Familiarity with the following experimental techniques required:
  • Performing single cell PCR
  • FACs analysis and sorting
  • Tissue digestion
  • Antibody staining
  • Tissue preparation for histology
