Assistant Professor - Fixed Term

Position Summary

The Department of Geography, Environment, and Spatial Sciences at Michigan State University is accepting applications for an AssistantProfessor – Fixed Term position to work with the Director of the Social Science Data Analytics Initiative (SSDA) to assist in the development and teaching of technical workshops, to support research efforts related to SSDA,and to organize and coordinate other Initiative Events. The College has provided funding for four guest speakers and/or workshops for SSDA during 2017-18.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Geography, Economics, Political Science

Minimum Requirements
  • PhD in a relevant field such as Geography, Economics, Political Science, or quantitative research methods before starting the position. 

  • Knowledge of R and Python. 

  • Research  experience with data science and data analytics concepts and techniques.

  • Track record of publication within the domain of data analytics in the social sciences.

  • Strong organizational ability.

  • Ability to work well independently and within group contexts as a collaborative team member.

Desired Qualifications

Experience teaching technical skills to others.
