Education is the primary focus of the faculty. The academic year is divided into three semesters with a new class of students admitted each semester. Lectures and other educational responsibilities continue throughout the year. Support services include counseling and an effective counselor is sought, particularly an individual who is interested in supporting the counseling service and who works well on a team. Research opportunities exist, primarily in the area of medical education.
The simulation center manager will spend 50% of his/her time overseeing the operations of the simulation center and 50% in teaching and simulation education research.
- Responsible for overseeing simulation center operations and budget
- Responsible for keeping the center current with simulation technology and its applications
Assist in developing working relationships with administrators, other faculty, staff and students within the institution as well as with other simulation centers and educational organizations to promote interdepartmental and inter-institutional health sciences education research.
- Promote research into the use of the use of simulation technology for the training of health professionals and others.
- Facilitate incorporation of human simulation into the School's curriculum.
- Independently, or as part of a team, assist students in realizing learning objectives through utilization of simulation.
- Design, develop, implement and evaluate new courses, scenarios, and educational initiatives in collaboration with content experts and put these through the IRB process
- Solicit instructor and student feedback following simulation experiences to analyze the impact of simulation on the learning process as part of structured educational research
- Collaborate with faculty to develop ideas for innovative research, design study protocol, identify funding sources, collect and analyze data and report results of research projects.
- Collaborate with regional, national and international users to advance the use of simulation in healthcare education.
- Maintain professional growth and development, and skills through appropriate educational/developmental activities, professional affiliations, and conferences to keep abreast of latest trends in human simulation.
- Publish and present simulation activities at national and international conferences.
- Master's or Doctoral degree in a health discipline: Medicine, Nursing, Health Education / Administration or other allied health field.
Four to five years professional experience as a practitioner in a clinical environment, with significant exposure to direct patient care.
- Experience in implementing, evaluating, and customizing simulation, clinical, or educational programs.
- Certifications in BLS and ACLS preferred.
Skills and Attributes:
- Knowledge of simulation services, technologies and applications.
- Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software application relevant to simulator functions.
- Computer literacy in PC and Mac-based software applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
- Exceptional analytical, interpretive and problem solving skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of organizational personnel, staff/faculty and students.
- Ability to carry out responsibilities in a timely, meticulous and professional manner, demonstrating initiative and creativity.
- Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, medicine and the healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of educational theory and research methodology
- Ability to work well under pressure, set priorities and make critical decisions.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments.
- Experience managing programs and budgets is preferred.
