The National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc., a nonprofit membership organization headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, is seeking qualified applicants for the staff position of Research Analyst, an entry level professional position.
NMFTA's Commodity Classification Standards Board develops and maintains the National Motor Freight Classification, a trucking industry standard that provides a comparison of products moving by motor carrier (truck) along with minimum packaging requirements and associated rules. The Research Analyst gathers and evaluates product information in support of the Commodity Classification Standards Board's activities. Specifically, the Analyst:
• Reviews various source materials, including in-house records, historical files, publications and the Internet
• Collects pertinent product information
• Assimilates the information obtained
• Analyzes the information using accepted classification criteria
• Prepares written reports and delivers oral presentations
The Analyst also visits carrier (trucking company) and shipper facilities to observe the products during transportation and obtain information firsthand.
Candidates must be college graduates. While the title suggests research, the position does not require advanced scientific or mathematical skills; it is very suitable for a recent college graduate with a liberal arts education. Candidates should, however, be detail-oriented, possess excellent writing skills, and be proficient with Microsoft Office applications, in particular Microsoft Word and Excel. No relocation expenses can be provided.
