Position Summary

Faculty in Communication Arts and Sciences cultivate student skill in understanding, evaluating and producing communication. The persons added to our affiliate instructor pool are part-time faculty who work on a contracted basis dependent on department needs.

Individuals may apply to teach in these emphasis areas with the defined academic qualifications:
Speech Communication -
Communication Theory-MA,
Organizational Communication – MA,
Rhetoric- MA,
Interpersonal Communication – MA,
Broadcasting,Radio/TV – BA+5

Speech, Language, Hearing Sciences (Including American Sign Language) – MA

Qualified applicants will be placed in the departmental pool and will be considered for affiliate/part-time departmental needs beginning Spring 2016.

Duties/Responsibilities

Teach 1-9 credit hours per semester. Maintain availability for consultation with students as needed. Teach assigned courses in one or more emphasis areas. Will work and interact with diverse groups of individuals.

Affiliate faculty are part-time, at-will employees hired to teach on a per credit hour basis for specific classes, as needed, on a semester by semester basis. Affiliate Faculty are not eligible for benefit coverage under the College’s benefit program. All such teaching assignments are dependent on budget and enrollment. An Affiliate faculty member’s duties include: meeting assigned classes or delivering on-line content consistent with college, school, and department policies; providing instruction in assigned classes consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if appropriate, with department course coordination policies; being available, either face to face or electronically, to students in assigned classes to provide additional academic support as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment; and complying with college-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation policies.

Required Qualifications

Radio/TV Broadcasting – a Bachelor’s Degree plus 5 years relevant professional work experience. Speech Communication – a Master’s Degree in Communication or relevant discipline. Speech, Language Hearing Sciences – a Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, or Deaf Education.



Preferred Qualifications

Radio/TV – a Master’s degree plus 5 years relevant professional work experience. Speech Communication – a doctorate in Communication. Speech Language Hearing Sciences – a doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, or Deaf Education.
