The Chair is responsible for working with the Teacher Education faculty to develop and grow the department; provide effective leadership, develop and mentor faculty and staff; create and support a high-quality academic culture that emphasizes collegiality, engagement and innovation; manage all academic, operational, and fiscal aspects of the program, and engage with the
education community and alumni.

campus or at off-campus sites within our region.
Earned Doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Curriculum & Instruction in the concentration area of Special Education, Early Intervention, Gifted Education, or Math Education from a nationally accredited university program.
Administrative experience with knowledge of CAEP accreditation standards.
Teaching, research, and service history sufficient to warrant appointment at the rank of Associate/Full Professor at FGCU.
Leadership experience in a Public University setting; experience in a faculty union environment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to form relationships with school districts and community-based educational organizations to foster mutually-beneficial partnerships.
Ability to mentor junior faculty and students in scholarly endeavors and in developing curriculum and courses.
Ability to manage administrative and leadership responsibilities.
Experience or commitment to the use of technology in distance learning & university teaching.
Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning.
Must value continued scholarship and service to the school and university.
Essential Job Duties
Guides the departmental level strategic planning process that supports the particular goals of the academic unit and the broader goals of the College and the University.
Presents independent analysis regarding recommendations for all faculty and staff appointments, re-appointments, and promotions; leaves of absence; travel authorizations, and other relevant department personnel functions.
Conducts annual performance reviews of faculty and staff. Evaluates faculty members for promotion in accordance with university policy.
Guides development of junior faculty.
Represents the department to internal and external academic communities, alumni, business and industry, government, foundations, and the general community.
Coordinates an effective curriculum, including the scheduling of courses.
Recruits, trains, develops, and evaluates faculty, adjunct faculty, professional staff, and support staff to meet the needs of the department.
Manages student grievances, complaints, cases of plagiarism and other cheating, etc. according to university guidelines.
Manages departmental budget, oversee expenditures, maintain accurate records and ensure sound fiscal policies and procedures.
Generates reports, including the annual report and data requests.
Submits annual staffing proposals.
Teaches 2 courses per academic year depending on departmental need.
Engages in outreach and recruitment.
Assists the Dean as needed.
