Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, social work, anthropology or relevant fields.
- Experience working with student veterans and/or other underrepresented communities.
- Knowledge of student development, diversity, inclusion, intersectionality, retention and multicultural theory.
- Knowledge of and work with assessment and evaluation tools.
- Experience with coordinating programs, events and trainings;
- Experience making public presentations;
- Knowledge of social media and MS Office software.

Preferred Qualifications:
- 1 or more years working with populations the position will serve.
- Bilingual with Spanish proficiency.
- 2 or more years of Student Affairs experience or a degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration or related areas.

Job Description:
The Student Development Specialist I for Veteran Programs (SDS I) assists with the coordination and delivery of all department services, including, but not limited to academic, personal and social advising of students from underrepresented and first-generation populations. The SDS I coordinates programs that support student veterans, oversees the Texas State Veteran Friendly Office Program, and develops and coordinates retention and outreach programs for student veteran community. The SDS I advises the Veterans Alliance of Texas State (VATS) chartered student organization and other SDI student organizations, and serves on the Veterans Advisory Council.

Job Duties:
- Support student veterans regarding retention, personal and academic issues.
- Advise the Veterans Alliance of Texas State (VATS) chartered student organization and assist with other SDI organizations.
- Assist with coordination and development of educational and support programs for student veterans.
- Develop and coordinate student veteran programs and other programs and initiatives as assigned.
- Prepare and implement outreach programs and initiatives for student veterans.
- Coordinate Veteran Friendly Office Program and related Training.
- Promote programs and projects that encourage retention of student veterans including the approval and monitoring of expenditures for student veteran programming budget.
- Evaluate and assess services and programs including written summary reports with specific recommendations.
- Serve on Veterans Advisory Council.
- Collect and promote web-based information for student veterans.
- Help maintain department webpages and social media sites.
- Represent the SDI department at job fairs, college programs, and other promotional events.
- Assist with Bobcat Preview (new student orientation program).
- Prepare and maintain calendar of student veteran events and programs.
- Conduct event and yearly assessment of programs and activities.
- Assist with supervision of student-worker staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
