Position Summary:
The Project Policy Analyst will provide analytical and policy level guidance on significant undergraduate admissions policy issues emanating from or anticipated as part of the President's Initiatives (e.g, implementation of community college transfer initiative, outreach & recruitment of underserved populations), as well as long-range undergraduate admissions issues requiring sustained, rigorous, and in-depth attention and analyses. Advises the Associate Vice President (AVP), Undergraduate Admissions and the Director of Admissions on strategic planning in the undergraduate admissions policy domain. Develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a strategic and long-rang direction for Universitywide undergraduate admissions. Identifies policy issues of importance to the University, which may come cross organizational lines; develops appropriate analytical and procedural frameworks for addressing and implementing Presidential Initiatives and other undergraduate admission issues. Formulates new policies and procedures for implementation that align with Presidential Initiatives, Regental/Academic Senate directives, and emerging issues that influence undergraduate admissions. Advises the AVP Undergraduate Admissions and the Director of Admissions about the organization's compliance with legal and regulatory requirements surrounding undergraduate admission policies. Proposes, leads and/or participates on policy and planning committees and working group. Consults within relevant UCOP and campus constituencies to achieve insight and consensus around proposed Universitywide undergraduate admissions strategies. Advises relevant UC constituencies regarding direction in the absence of clear external and internal practices.

As a member of the Undergraduate Admissions department, this positions:

(a) Provides essential analytical expertise in strategy and policy review, development and implementation for both freshman and transfer admission at the University of California. As an integral part of the department's analytical and management team, the incumbent provides daily and long-range analytical support to the AVP for Undergraduate Admissions; Uses advanced statistical concepts to explain and model impact of policy and practice to resolve complex undergraduate admissions issues; Works on significant, strategic issues and problems requiring political sensitivity, where analysis of political climate and statistical data are required.

(b) Defines, and is accountable for, the creation of an analytical and research agenda that addresses on-going and emerging undergraduate admission issues, especially those that pertain to the University's obligations under the Master Plan for Higher Education, as well as state and federal regulations

(c) Communicates complex and sometimes contentious information related to University undergraduate admission and selection policies and practices; Independently uses and applies in-depth knowledge and experience in this policy arena on projects that typically have Universitywide impact. Operates in a highly visible, politically sensitive, legally complex and evolving arena.
