Position Description: Texas State University is looking for an instructor of Communication Design—specializing in the area of Brand Experience—to join our team. We are seeking candidates with effective teaching abilities that have a background in creative practice or industry.


Duties:
• Teach up to three Communication Design courses per semester at the BFA and/or the MFA level—as assigned by the school director—specifically in the area of Brand Experience.
• Produce outstanding peer reviewed original creative design and research
and have a background in creative practice or industry.
• Engage in collegial service to the school, college, university, community, and profession.

Required Qualifications

Applicants applying at the assistant professor rank must have:
• An MFA or MDes degree in Communication Design, Visual Communications, or Graphic Design, completed before date of hire, or a BFA in Communication Design, Visual Communication, or Graphic Design with a minimum eight-years of professional experience substantiated by an exceptional record of accomplishments within the discipline.
• A record of research/creative activities and professional accomplishments in Brand Experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of conceptual and design-based principles applied to communication and/or advertising design in traditional and interactive media.
• Knowledge of and experience with computer-mediated technologies and core software
applications relevant to the communication design discipline (e.g., Macintosh OS, Adobe Creative Suite).
• Excellent oral and written communication.

Applicants applying at the associate professor rank must have:
• An MFA or MDes degree in Communication Design, Visual Communication, or Graphic Design, completed before the date of hire.
• A national record of research/creative activities and professional accomplishments in Brand Experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of conceptual and design-based principles applied to communication and/or advertising design in traditional and interactive media.
• Knowledge of and experience with computer-mediated technologies and core software applications relevant to the communication design discipline (e.g., Macintosh OS, Adobe Creative Suite).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Applicants applying at the professor rank must have the credentials listed for the associate professor rank as well as a record of successful teaching, scholarly/creative activity, and service that would qualify the candidate for tenure at Texas State.

The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on the University and department established standards.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who also have:
• One or more years of successful undergraduate and/or graduate university-level teaching, not including graduate assistant teaching.
• Professional experience in design and/or advertising for national/international clients that demonstrate the ability to define, research, design and implement a brand experience, across all channels of communication.
• Curriculum development for the communication design discipline.
• Online teaching experience.
• Service-related activities in undergraduate and graduate design program(s), or professional organization(s).
• Grants and Funding.
• Graduate-level research/thesis supervision and advising experience.

Search finalist will be asked to provide photocopies of graduate transcripts. The candidate selected for hire will be required to provide official transcripts from all degree granting universities.

Examples of web/video/animation/motion graphics must be listed as hyperlinks within the PDF file and link to portfolio web sites or video sharing sites such as Vimeo. Do not upload motion graphics files.
