Position Summary

The Finance Department at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) is conducting a national search for a tenure track position that will begin August 2018. MSU Denver is a comprehensive, urban institution that provides students from all walks of life and circumstances an opportunity for an education leading to a degree and a productive life. The College of Business is one of four Colleges/Schools in the University. It houses six academic departments: Finance, Accounting, Computer Information Systems, Economics, Management and Marketing.

The Department of Finance serves almost 400 majors who can choose specialized study in either general finance or financial services. The financial services curriculum is registered with the CFP Board of Standards, and graduates may qualify (depending on their coursework) to sit for the national certification exam upon graduation.

Duties/Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a total of four upper division finance sections every semester (the possibility for a reduced load exists with teaching assignments at the graduate level). Other required activities include providing academic and professional advising, engaging in scholarly activities that result in papers published in refereed conference proceedings and/or refereed journals, as well as participating in progressively responsible service activities that benefit the Department, College and University.

Teaching involves activities that impart knowledge and critical thinking skills to students. It includes preparing for courses assigned, assessing student progress, conducting curricular review, curricular development and program review, teaching online and on-campus classes, and using new technology, as appropriate.

Advising involves activities specifically directed to assist the student in choosing career options, selecting a degree program, successfully completing his/her degree, obtaining employment or graduate school placement, and keeping informed of University policies.

Scholarly activity is a process that includes activities that brings enrichment to the faculty member and the profession and results in new material that can be presented to students and are related to the faculty member’s assigned responsibilities. Intellectual contribution expectations for Scholarly Academic (SA) designation include a Doctoral Degree with one peer reviewed journal article published, plus four additional scholarly activities, two of which must be from within the past two years. ABD and recent doctorate graduates (less than five years) require no intellectual contributions at the time of hire, but must meet the SA or Practicing Academic (PA) requirements within five years of the date degree was conferred. Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will have:
• A completed research doctorate in finance or a related field from an AACSB-accredited institution.
• A demonstrated record of excellence in teaching corporate finance classes at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and investments at the undergraduate level.
• Ability to develop intellectual and scholarly contributions, including publishing in quality refereed journals
• Demonstrated capacity of providing service to the institution’s many stakeholders.
• Teaching experience and evidence of scholarly production in areas appropriate to the candidate’s area of expertise, including the graduate level (in support of the University’s MBA program).
