Requisition Title: Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream - Linguistics - 1701768

The Centre for French and Linguistics, University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC), invites applications for a full-time teaching-stream appointment in Linguistics. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream and will commence July 1, 2018.

Candidates must have a PhD in Linguistics or a closely related field by the time of the appointment. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching linguistics at the university level; a commitment to pedagogical enquiry, curriculum development, and teaching innovation; and in interest in developing a long-term career in teaching and related scholarly activity in Linguistics. Candidates also must demonstrate an ability to teach introductory courses with a large enrolment as well as smaller upper year courses. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated by strong letters of reference, teaching accomplishments documented in a teaching dossier, and publications or conference presentations on pedagogical research in the discipline. A creative, coherent and complete teaching dossier will highlight the candidate's teaching accomplishments and any professional experience that may enhance teaching, and typically would include a teaching statement, course outlines, course evaluations, and select course materials that directly support and illustrate the teaching statement.

The successful candidate's expertise and teaching interest will be in one or more of the following areas: morphology, syntax, sociolinguistics, and research methodologies, with a strong commitment to best pedagogical practices. They also must have one or more of the following: experience with on-line course delivery and pedagogical technologies; experience in teaching assistant supervision; experience in directing/supervising undergraduate student research; and expertise in a non-Indo-European language.

The successful candidate will be expected to engage in service activities in the Centre. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
