The Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (WVDL) is a high volume diagnostic laboratory that provides a broad range of veterinary diagnostic testing services to approximately 2500 laboratory clients. Laboratories are located both in Madison and in Barron.
This position is located at the Madison lab and provides complex in-depth technical support for microbiologists and pathologists in the Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy (TSE) laboratory. These duties will include, but are not limited to, receiving samples, completing appropriate documentation and processing samples in preparation for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) testing by ELISA and immunohistochemistry. The processing of CWD samples is one of the most difficult for the sampling of tissues. The consequence of this position not processing the samples correctly can result in innacurate results reported regarding CWD in WI.
Additional duties may include storing samples in temporary storage, retrieving samples when required, discarding samples when appropriate, assisting in data entry and tracking of samples. General maintenance and supply of equipment and material needed to accomplish the duties will also be required. A background in complex tissue sampling and laboratory work is desirable and additional training will be provided as needed.
The schedule will vary depending on workload. Evening, weekend and overtime hours will likely be required.
