Occupational Summary
Administer and coordinate the technical activities of translational research group with extensive multidisciplinary collaborative efforts. Acts as an advisor to scientific collaborators to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems. Develop and administer milestone-driven schedules, laboratory activities, training activities and laboratory network interactions. Frequently interact with other labs and coordinate wider program activities with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods, and reporting requirements. Assist in data management, writing manuscripts and progress reports, and the production of funding applications for government and industry sponsors.

Work Performed
  • Administer and coordinate the technical activities and infrastructure related to the operation of a translational research group in collaboration with clinical research and bioinformatics/biostatistics investigators.
  • Develop and implement laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Manage and coordinate operational policies and procedures; coordinate with research staff on issues that impact laboratory activities.
  • Coordinate and supervise the technical training of visiting scientists, students and new employees according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Coordinate and supervise routine and specialized technical procedures.
  • Coordinate the collection, analysis, interpretation and documentation of data generated by the laboratory.
  • Compile and maintain records, reports and documentation of activities for use in reporting and funding applications.
  • Maintain liaison with investigators, research personnel, and staff to solve specific operating problems and improve technical activities.
  • Advise on technical procedures, techniques and equipment, and maintain conformance with specific operational standards.
  • Assist in formulating and implementing the short and long-range goals for the operation of the laboratory; set priorities, assign responsibilities, and establish timetables.
  • Project future needs and formulate operational strategies consistent with projections.
  • Manage and coordinate the activities of a project(s) with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods and reporting requirements.
  • Evaluate and recommend new techniques and technologies.
  • Plan and conduct meetings with collaborators to ensure agreement on preferred practices, to implement new policies, and to keep laboratory personnel informed regarding current objectives and standards.
  • Provide guidance as requested regarding hiring, training, promotions, and disciplinary issues for technical personnel.

Education

Bachelors or Masters degree in the biological or health sciences.

Experience

Minimum of four years of experience working in research laboratories. Must have a minimum of two years of experience performing work specific to the position.
