Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, invites applications for a Communications Specialist. The position works closely with and reports to the Media Relations Director, with it's primary responsibility being to support external communication efforts on behalf of The Citadel. This position will produce written and multi-media products from conception, to editing, to distribution and promotion. Successful candidates will have strong diplomatic and writing skills, the ability to maintain confidentiality, and a proven ability to collaborate, as well as social media experience. Among other things, to be successful in this position, one must have good judgment, confidence, and have the ability to execute multiple and competing priorities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Business, Communications or related field.
  • A minimum of 1- 2 years of relevant experience in internal communications, public affairs, public relations, media relations, journalism or related field. With experience working as liaison supporting communications in a fast-paced environment, heavy deadline requirements, serving internal clients and external community and media representatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a commitment to top quality performance with superior writing, editing and social media management abilities.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience in higher education or government sectors preferred.
