Faculty - Assistant Professor - Public Health

The College of Science and Health is seeking a tenure track Assistant Professor - Public Health at Utah Valley University. Teaching responsibilities (12-15 credits per semester) could include: Health Education for Elementary Teachers, Consumer Health, Health Education Teaching Methods, Introduction to Health Professions, Foundations of Health Education, Principles of Community Health, Human Nutrition and other classes as needed. Faculty are required to provide service to the department, university and community, produce scholarly work, and uphold professional and ethical standards.

Required Qualifications:
A doctoral degree from an accredited institution in school health, public health, health promotion, or a related field. Applicants who are ABD may be considered, with proof that all requirements for their doctoral degree will be completed on or before June 30, 2018. Prior experience with supervising student teaching. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of public, school and community health programs and course content.
  • Knowledge of behavior change theory, program planning models, research design.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques, curriculum development, and evaluation and assessment of instruction.
  • Knowledge of student management, motivation and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of program development and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of current trends in education.
  • Skills in effective instructional strategies and techniques in public and community health.
  • Skills in public speaking and presentation.
  • Skills in the use of computers and related software applications.
  • Skills in effective interpersonal relations, problem solving, and decision-making.
  • Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to conduct academic health-related research.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated successful teaching at the college or university level for two or more years.
  • Expertise in school and/or community health.
  • Published health-related articles in academic peer-reviewed journals.
  • Evidence of involvement in health professional organizations and/or associations.
  • Teaching certification/teaching license preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Some travel may be required.
Generally, 8 am - 5 pm, with occasional activities and events at night or on weekends.
Work may, on occasion, involve exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
