Assistant Warehouse Manager
Supervises activity of warehouse personnel, assists warehouse manager to manage warehousing activities and complete various assignments
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assists Warehouse Manager in managing warehouse operation and assumes full managerial role in absence of Warehouse Manager.
Supervises daily work of warehouse personnel.
Plans layout of stockroom, warehouse, and other storage areas, considering turnover, size, weight, and related factors of items stored.
Advises employees on care and preservation of items received, stored, and shipped; methods and use of equipment in handling, storing, maintaining, and shipping stock; and related problems.
Studies records and recommends remedial actions for reported nonusable, slow moving, and excess stock.
Reviews records for accuracy of information and compliance with established procedures, and to determine adequacy of stock levels.
Schedules work for special and periodic inventories.
Traces history of items to determine reasons for discrepancies between inventory and stock control records and recommends remedial actions to resolve discrepancies.
Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow.
Issues written and oral instructions.
Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates.
Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances.
Prepares composite reports from individual reports of subordinates.
Inspects physical condition of warehouse and equipment. Prepares work order for repairs and requisitions for replacement of equipment.
Directs salvage of damaged or used material.
Participates in planning personnel safety and plant protection activities.
Adjusts errors and complaints.
Reviews freight bills and forward them to Finance Department for further processing.
Negotiates with trucking companies on shipping rates and terms.
Responds promptly to headquarters on quality control issues.
Selects reliable personnel agency for managing labor requirement.
Directs monthly cycle count and yearly inventory count.
Accepts ISO 9001 responsibilities as applicable.
Directly supervises six to ten employees in the Warehouse Department. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor degree or equivalent; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
