Assistant or Associate Professor - Women''''s & Gender Studies
The College of Social Sciences at Eastern Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position, which will include duties as the Program Director of the Women's and Gender Studies Program, to begin September 2018.
We seek a teacher/scholar/director with a Ph.D. in Women's and Gender Studies or in a related discipline, preferably in the Humanities or Social Sciences. Candidates must demonstrate thorough knowledge in the following areas: diversity of feminist theories and histories, intersectionality, and sex, gender, and sexualities. Ideal areas of expertise include: critical race theory, transnational feminism, transgender and sexuality studies, and feminist histories.
The successful candidate will demonstrate experience with program administration, teaching introductory and upper-level courses in Women's Gender Studies, and a strong record in research and university service. Knowledge of navigating academic systems, a collaborative approach to campus leadership, and commitment to networking among colleagues across campus are central to the role of this director/faculty position.
The responsibilities of a successful candidate will include:
- Teach three to four courses per year on the quarter system (18 credits approximately), such as Introduction to Women's and Gender Studies, Feminist Theories, Feminist Methodologies, Senior Capstone, and other courses relevant to their academic training.
- Serve as director of a vibrant, growing, autonomous Women's and Gender Studies program with a major and minor in Women's and Gender Studies, an undergraduate Gender Studies Certificate, a graduate certificate in Gender and Sexuality Studies, as well as the Women's and Gender Education Center. Course release for director duties is 50%, and director receives one month of summer pay for administrative responsibilities in the summer quarter.
- Recruit and retain majors, minors, and certificate students as well as increase overall course enrollments, develop curriculum for in-person and online courses, and lead program assessment.
- Maintain an active research program and participate in service activities.
- Collaborate with manager of Women's and Gender Education Center on joint projects and programs, including fundraising and grant-writing.
- Advise and mentor students, which may include supervision of student research and internships.
The Women's and Gender Studies Program and Women's and Gender Education Center are seeking a director/faculty member with a strong commitment to students, collegiality, quality teaching, program development, and advising, as well as scholarly potential. - PhD in Women's and Gender Studies or a related discipline.
- Expertise in Women's and Gender Studies as demonstrated by a record of coursework, teaching experience, publications, and/or relevant professional experience
- Demonstrated potential for active and innovative scholarship
- Administrative and supervisory experience
- Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.
- Fundraising and grant writing experience
- Substantial experience in academic program administration
- Demonstrated history of community engagement and outreach
