Position Summary:
Herty Advanced Materials Development Center (Savannah, GA). The Pilot Plant Technician III performs equipment staging, basic maintenance and repair and monitors weight, steam pressure and line speed to ensure optimal performance.

Essential Functions

  • Tests (routine, standard and special) for paper, board, and non-woven products.
  • Performs physical and chemical analysis, including fiber preparation, and physical strength evaluation, on paper and pulp products.
  • Conducts calibration checks on laboratory test equipment.
  • Formulates paper hand sheets using TAPPI standard procedures or client requested methodology.
  • Operates laboratory refiners, digesters and/or sheet making equipment.
  • Conducts simple chemical analysis on materials and prepares samples for testing.

    High School Diploma or equivalent

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    Previous supervisory experience; knowledgeable about stock prep, refiner, Specialty Product Calendars (SPC) and mechanical operations of equipment; detailed oriented; ability to move objects up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations; effective communication (verbal and written), organization and human relations skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment; proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; successful completion background investigation and pre-employment urinalysis prior to employment.
