The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (ELPS) at Florida State University is pleased to announce a tenure-track faculty position in the Leadership Studies program, which is situated in the Higher Education program. This position is the result of Florida State University’s pledge to improving the overall university student/faculty ratio and class size.


Major responsibilities include: engaging in a clearly defined research agenda and publishing in the field of leadership education, higher education and/or student affairs; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in leadership and related areas including but not limited to higher education; mentoring graduate students and directing doctoral dissertations; seeking external funding; assisting in program coordination in collaboration with program faculty; and providing service to the program, department, college, university and the community.


Candidates for the tenure-track position should have an earned doctorate in leadership studies, higher education, or another academic discipline with an emphasis in leadership, higher education administration, or student development.


Program faculty seek an individual who can contribute to our emphasis on leadership, social justice, and student success and who are committed to undergraduate instruction and advising. We welcome applicants who utilize qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed methodological approaches and have research agendas and teaching interests in leadership.
The ideal candidate for the Assistant Professor position will show promise of a strong research agenda, effective teaching, grant writing, and the ability to sustain a program of scholarly activity.

Florida State University has a commitment to leadership education, as seen through the Undergraduate Certificate in Leadership Studies, undergraduate leadership course offerings, and the Leadership Learning Research Center. The Undergraduate Certificate in Leadership Studies is a partnership between the Department of Leadership and Policy Studies in the College of Education and the Center for Leadership and Social Change in the Division of Student Affairs. It is an 18-credit, interdisciplinary, and experiential program that prepares students for leadership in multiple contexts.
From the Undergraduate Certificate in Leadership Studies and collaborative initiatives, leadership education has expanded to include multiple course offerings and the Leadership Learning Research Center (LLRC). The LLRC informs and supports scholars, educators, and practitioners regarding leadership teaching and learning through scholarship, curriculum development, and consultation. The strength of the LLRC resides in its theory-to-practice-to-theory framework, where research is directly applied to both curricular and co-curricular leadership education.
