Job Summary:

The Animal Research Technician-Advanced position serves as a lead worker for Animal Research Technicians (ARTs) and student hires in the Colony Management Unit at the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center (WNPRC), including its satellite facilities located at the Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research (WIMR) and Blue Mounds Quarantine (BMQ) facilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Laboratory Technical Support Supervisor (i.e. Colony Management Supervisor). The ART-Advanced assists the Laboratory Technical Support Supervisor in scheduling ARTs in the assigned work area, directing, coordinating and assigning work, and managing husbandry records. This position provides laboratory animal husbandry support for assigned area(s) of responsibility, interacts with investigators, laboratory staff, and other staff in the WNPRC Animal Services Division (Veterinary Services, Clinical Pathology, Colony Records, etc.), cross trains and fills in for other ART personnel, and fills in for the Laboratory Technical Support Supervisor during limited periods of absence.

The WNPRC is a tuberculosis-free (TB-free) environment. The incumbent is expected to practice and enforce health and safety rules, and should have the knowledge necessary to maintain animal health by following formal standard operation procedures (SOPs), as well as written and verbal directives, and the use of personal protection equipment (PPE). To prevent transfer of infectious biological organisms and/or contamination with hazardous chemicals, the incumbent should have a basic understanding of disinfection practices, sanitation equipment, and the materials used for the disposal of bio-hazardous waste.



Schedule Comment:

Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday-Friday, with regular weekend and holiday work required.

Incumbent may be assigned to work at at the WNPRC's central location on campus, or either of two satellite facilities in Blue Mounds or at the WIMR (Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research) near UW Hospital.

The priority will be filling a vacancy at the Blue Mounds facility.
