SUMMARY:  The Development Associate is responsible for assisting the Executive Director of Development for Individual Giving and other members of the Development team with all functions of the department. Key responsibilities will include coordination and execution of a comprehensive planned giving program to maximize fundraising success and meet annual goals for philanthropic support for Otterbein University. The incumbent must apply technical and practical knowledge of specific software and data base management. In addition, the Development Associate will assist the Executive Director and major gift officers with writing and editing proposals, letters and budgetary documents.  They must facilitate and manage multiple projects, while demonstrating the highest ethical and professional standards and confidentiality. The Development Associate is responsible for the administration and program activities for major and planned gifts at the University by performing the following duties:  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Coordinates communication plan to promote information about gift, legacy and estate planning

Coordinates the longest living alumnus program 

Monitors and administers the payment process for insurance policy premiums and charitable gift annuities payments

Plans and develops gift and estate planning seminars

Prepares detailed analysis and gift proposals that are specific to individual donors and prospects utilizing the applicable gift planning software

Maintains working knowledge of federal and state tax law as it relates to both current and estate giving.

Assists and provides donors, prospects, lawyers, and financial planners with Planned Giving and other specific financial information.

Organizes distribution of Planned Giving printed materials from both internal and external sources.

Creates a variety of interpersonal communication between donors and department, including setting up meetings, sending personal/celebratory messages, and relationship building 

Participates and interacts in the implementation of special activities for the Development/Individual Giving Office and the Institutional Advancement Department as requested.

Performs administrative functions, including the drafting of correspondence, proposals, data entry, and travel planning, as required to support the Executive Director.
